"Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him." Proverbs 29:20 ESV
How often do I heed this advice? How often do I trust this wisdom? Or do I let the fear of not being heard, understood, or fear of not being 'right' control how fast I reply?
I have often been too quick to speak. It's a problem, actually. I don't always have to share my opinion. I don't always have to give insight. What I need to work on is sitting with people and actually hearing them. Often, I am more concerned with a response to someone than I am with actually listening. This isn't a way to show love. This isn't a way to have compassion. This isn't the way of Jesus. The way of Jesus takes time to s l o w down. The way of Jesus is to sit and give a response that brings wisdom, discernment, and most importantly love.
How often do I heed to the way of Jesus even in the small things like how I reply to people? How do you do at this? How can we practice the way of Jesus even in our everyday speech?
